The NTPC Board of Directors has approved investment in the Lara super thermal power project (STPP), Stage-II (2x800 MW). The power station is in the Pussore Taluk of Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, near Lara village.

The STPP, which is expected to cost Rs 15,529.99 crore, has a total installed capacity of 1,600 MW divided into two units, each of which can generate 800 MW of power.

The first unit of this facility began operations on September 30, 2019, while the second unit began production at the plant on July 20, 2020, considerably increasing the area's electricity supply. NTPC plans to have 130 GW of installed capacity by 2032.

Currently, NTPC operates 55 power stations, including 24 coal, seven combined cycle gas, and 11 solar projects, among others. In addition, it has nine coal as well as a gas station, which is owned by joint ventures (JVs).
