Novonesis to Invest ₹6,660 Crore in Enzyme Production Facility Expansion at Patalganga, Maharashtra
Danish biosolutions company Novonesis has announced an investment of over ₹6,660 crore (€600 million) to expand its enzyme production facility at Patalganga, Maharashtra. The expansion will be carried out over the next four years, with the facility expected to be fully operational by 2030.
The expanded plant will manufacture enzymes for a broad range of end-use industries, including biofuels, household care, animal feed, and food and beverages. The investment is intended to scale up Novonesis' global production capacity and strengthen the resilience and flexibility of its international supply network.
The Patalganga facility will be integrated into Novonesis' global manufacturing footprint, positioning the company closer to customers in India, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa — markets the company expects to grow faster than developed economies in the coming years.
The company said the expansion will incorporate water and energy efficiency measures, including freshwater recycling to cut water draw and integrated heat pumps to reduce the energy required to operate the site.
Novonesis' regional leadership noted that India's BioE3 policy framework has supported the case for expanding biosolutions manufacturing capacity in the country. The Patalganga expansion adds to a growing base of specialty chemical and biotechnology manufacturing investment in Maharashtra's industrial belt.
