NHAI Plans ₹3,821 Crore, 49.6 Km Four-Lane Greenfield Corridor Linking Chitrakoot with Prayagraj via Rajapur
A four-lane, access-controlled greenfield highway estimated at ₹3,820.96 crore is proposed to connect Chitrakoot with Prayagraj via Rajapur in Uttar Pradesh. The corridor will run approximately 49.655 km and is designed to provide an alternative route between the two cities, bypassing congested and densely populated stretches of the existing network.
The proposed alignment connects to the existing NH-731A network near Rajapur and links onward to NH-35, which runs through Chitrakoot and the wider Bundelkhand region. The corridor is also positioned near the Bundelkhand Expressway, which begins close to Bharatkoop in Chitrakoot district, as well as the SH-92/Rajapur–Banda road and NH-731AG, which connects NH-35 near Raipura with NH-731A near Rajapur.
Planning discussions have also considered integrating the corridor with other proposed infrastructure in the Prayagraj region, including the planned Aero City and the Naini industrial hub.
The Chitrakoot–Prayagraj corridor forms part of a broader push to expand highway capacity around Prayagraj. Alongside it, an 80.791 km stretch of NH-35 between Leprosy Crossing in Prayagraj and the Mirzapur bypass is separately proposed to be widened from two lanes to four lanes at an estimated cost of ₹4,495.43 crore, including realignments and bypasses. Together, the two proposed projects represent an estimated ₹8,316 crore in planned NHAI investment for the region.
