Midwest Energy Commissions ₹100 Crore, 1.2 GWh Battery Energy Storage Manufacturing Facility in Bengaluru
Midwest Energy, the technology and clean energy arm of the Midwest Business House, has commenced commercial production at its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The company has invested approximately ₹100 crore in establishing the plant, which has an annual manufacturing capacity of 1.2 GWh.
The facility is equipped with integrated Cell-to-Container manufacturing capabilities, allowing production of battery modules, trays, racks and fully integrated containerised battery energy storage systems under one roof. It is designed to manufacture systems ranging from 3 kWh to 6 MWh across voltage platforms of 48V to 1,500V, serving commercial, industrial, renewable energy and utility-scale applications. The plant's products are aligned with UL 1973, UL 9540 and UL 9540A safety standards.
As part of its product portfolio, the company is advancing two flagship platforms: a 418 kWh outdoor BESS unit for commercial, industrial and distributed energy applications, and a 5 MWh containerised BESS platform aimed at grid-scale and large industrial deployments, supporting renewable integration, peak demand management and load shifting.
At full capacity utilisation, the facility is expected to generate annual revenues of nearly ₹1,000 crore and create 150 to 250 employment opportunities as production scales up. The company plans to further automate the facility to raise capacity from the current 1.2 GWh to 2 GWh, with a longer-term roadmap toward 3 GWh, as India's battery storage sector grows alongside expanding renewable energy capacity.
