GreenH Electrolysis Delivers Hydrogen Production and Refuelling Infrastructure for India's First Hydrogen Train at Jind, Haryana

GreenH Electrolysis has designed and delivered the hydrogen production and refuelling infrastructure for India's first hydrogen-powered train, inaugurated at Jind, Haryana on July 17. The project involved retrofitting a Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rake operating on the Sonipat-Jind section from diesel to hydrogen power, as part of Indian Railways' pilot toward its net-zero emissions goal.

Indian Railways awarded the retrofit contract to Medha Servo Drives Limited, which in turn contracted GreenH to execute the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the hydrogen production and refuelling station. The facility was delivered as a fully integrated turnkey solution, covering process engineering, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, and safety systems.

At the core of the system is a 1 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser, manufactured at GreenH's facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, using technology from its parent company H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies. The electrolyser has the capacity to produce 420 kg of green hydrogen per day, operating round the clock to supply the refuelling station.

The Jind facility also houses India's largest railway hydrogen storage and refuelling infrastructure, with a capacity of 3,000 kg of hydrogen storage, along with hydrogen compressors and dispensers. GreenH Electrolysis is a joint venture between H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies and Castlegreen Energy, focused on manufacturing PEM electrolysers and developing green hydrogen production systems in India.
