Global Investors Meet 2024 in Tamil Nadu will witness fresh projects and expansions by India Inc majors in TN, as well as the first-ever entry of several international industry giants into India through the state.
In an interview with TOI, state officials said that among the documents that will be disclosed at the event to showcase TN's development into a hub for manufacturing as well as a broader knowledge economy are investment memorandums of understanding and project foundations spanning the electronics, renewable energy, and FMCG sectors.
First Solar CEO Mark Widmar, Coursera CEO Jeff Maggioncalda, Tata Technologies MD Warren Harris, Chris Miller, the author of bestseller Chip War, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal, SAP Labs MD Sindhu Gangadharan, Sundaram Clayton MD Lakshmi Venu, and ISRO chairman S Somanath, are part of the speakers' line-up at GIM to be held on January 7-8, 2024 in Chennai.
"One of our main goals in organising the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2024 is to showcase Tamil Nadu as not only a state which continues to flourish as a manufacturing hub but as one which has also gone beyond manufacturing to become a knowledge economy," TN industries minister TRB Rajaa said.
"While we have largely consolidated our strengths in manufacturing over the past few years, we have plenty of potential to go higher in the manufacturing value chain; even in well established sectors like Technical Textiles, EVs, Aerospace and Defence, Renewables, ESDM and Semiconductors," he added.
Vishnu V, MD and CEO, Guidance TN, noted that while it is post such events that states usually see major investment traction, TN has been seeing entry of marquee global companies in the run up to the GIM.
"Tamil Nadu has a good mix of capital-intensive and labour-intensive sectors and the goal is to move up the value chain in each of the areas," he added.
