Maharashtra Government to Redevelop Ulhasnagar Central Hospital into 500-Bed Multi-Specialty Facility
The Maharashtra government has announced plans to redevelop the government-run Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar into a modern 500-bed multi-specialty facility, as part of efforts to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The announcement was made by Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar during a visit to the Central Hospital and the newly developed ESIC Hospital in Ulhasnagar. The state government has also proposed an expansion of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital to address the region's growing healthcare needs.
The Health Minister said the hospital would be redeveloped along the lines of the Thane District Civil Hospital. Kalyan Member of Parliament Dr Shrikant Shinde, who was present during the inspection, has directed the Health Department and the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed redevelopment on a priority basis and submit it to the state government for approval.
The upgraded facility has also been proposed to include a dedicated maternity hospital, providing comprehensive healthcare services under one roof. The existing hospital will undergo a complete infrastructure audit, with the state government committing to make necessary funds available for upgrading medical infrastructure.
