Lohia Aerospace Signs MoU with Massivit for India's First Large-Format Composite 3D Printing Facility in Kanpur
Lohia Aerospace Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Massivit, a global leader in large-format additive manufacturing, establishing a Joint Manufacturing Alliance to bring the technology to India for the first time for composite tooling and critical aerospace components.
Under the alliance, Massivit's large-format additive manufacturing platform will be installed at Lohia Aerospace's Kanpur facility, enabling production of moulds and manufacturing tools in days rather than weeks. The technology is expected to cut tooling lead times by up to 90%. Each printer can produce one to two complete sets of composite tools per day, priced at approximately USD 10,000-20,000 per tool, with Lohia planning to deploy 8-10 printers in the near term, creating an estimated 60-100 skilled jobs.
Lohia Aerospace plans to invest USD 8-10 million over the next one to two years to scale the project. The investment will support expansion of the company's Kanpur manufacturing operations, where an additional 250,000 square feet of production space is under development alongside its existing 80,000-square-foot facility.
Because large-format additive tooling is not currently established in India and is entirely imported, the alliance positions Lohia to substitute imported composite tooling with domestic production, targeting full import substitution over time. Massivit's Chief Business Officer Ziki Kuly said the partnership will help deliver its RapidWings platform to India's growing defence market.
