Lam Research to Invest ₹10,000 Crore in India's First Silicon Component Manufacturing Facility
Lam Research Corporation, a US-based semiconductor equipment maker, has announced plans to invest approximately ₹10,000 crore (about US$1.2 billion) in India over the next several years to establish its first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country. The announcement, made in Bengaluru, comes ahead of the SEMICON India 2026 conference and marks the next phase of the company's long-term expansion in India, where it has had a presence for more than 25 years.
The proposed facility will support a vertically integrated manufacturing process covering silicon ingot production and processing for advanced semiconductor technologies and leading-edge chip nodes. This marks a shift for Lam Research in India from its traditional focus on engineering and research toward physical manufacturing.
Alongside the new facility, the company will expand its advanced research and development operations through its India Center for Engineering in Bengaluru, which supports global customer programmes in chip design, testing, validation and next-generation technology development.
The investment is expected to create opportunities for Indian suppliers across specialised materials, precision components, gases, chemicals, metrology and manufacturing services used in the semiconductor industry. Lam Research is also collaborating with the Indian Institute of Science and the India Semiconductor Mission to train up to 60,000 students in semiconductor manufacturing between 2023 and 2033 through its Semiverse Solutions virtual training platform.
