JCB India Targets 170,000-Unit Annual Manufacturing Capacity by 2030, Doubling Current Output
JCB India is planning a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint, targeting annual production capacity of approximately 170,000 machines by 2030, up from around 85,000 units currently. The company cited sustained infrastructure investment across roads, railways, ports, rural development and water projects in India as a key driver behind the expansion plan.
JCB increasingly views India as a manufacturing base for its wider global operations, with machines and components produced in the country already supplying more than 130 international markets. The company has not disclosed a specific investment figure or individual plant-level programme tied to the 2030 capacity target, though it currently spends between ₹200 crore and ₹500 crore annually across research and development and manufacturing expansion in India.
The capacity expansion is being paired with deeper component localisation. JCB said its locally manufactured backhoe loaders have reached approximately 96 percent domestic content, while excavators currently stand at 65-75 percent, with further substitution of imported components planned. India also supplies engines, transmissions and fabricated structures to JCB's operations overseas.
The move reflects a broader transformation expected in India's construction equipment sector, with industry output projected to rise substantially through 2030. JCB is also targeting stronger exports and expanding the application of its existing machines, including equipment adapted for railway infrastructure and maintenance work. The planned capacity doubling would reinforce India's dual role for JCB as both one of its largest end markets and a growing production and export hub.
