SiCSem to Set Up ₹3,406 Crore Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Unit in Khordha, Odisha
Odisha is set to get its second semiconductor unit after the state's Unit Approval Committee approved a proposal by SiCSem Private Limited to establish a Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district. The project will fall under the jurisdiction of the Falta Special Economic Zone (FSEZ).
The facility will be spread across 21.889 acres and involve an investment of ₹3,406.25 crore. It is expected to generate employment for nearly 1,270 people. The plant will manufacture SiC Diodes and SiC MOSFETs, with a proposed annual production capacity of 4.8 million SiC Diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs.
The project carries a significant export component, with projected export turnover of ₹7,043 crore over five years and estimated Net Foreign Exchange earnings of around ₹4,523 crore over the same period. Silicon Carbide semiconductors are increasingly used in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and power electronics applications requiring high efficiency and performance.
The SiCSem approval adds to Odisha's growing semiconductor investment pipeline. The state has so far attracted five investment proposals worth ₹10,899 crore in the sector, supported by state incentives and the India Semiconductor Mission. Odisha's first such facility, an Advanced Glass Semiconductor Packaging Unit by Heterogeneous Integration Packaging Solutions (3D Glass Solutions) involving an investment of ₹1,943 crore, broke ground in Bhubaneswar on April 19, 2026.
