IOL Chemicals Announces ₹495 Crore Expansion at Barnala, Punjab: New 6,000 TPA Ibuprofen Unit, CDMO Formulation Facility and Tolling Plant
IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Limited has announced capacity expansion at its existing Barnala site in Punjab. The projects total about ₹495 crore and are funded through internal accruals.
The company is setting up a fully backward-integrated Ibuprofen unit with capacity of 6,000 MT a year. Its Ibuprofen capacity will rise from 12,000 MT to 18,000 MT a year once the unit is commissioned. The project cost is about ₹350 crore.
The company has installed a pharmaceutical formulation facility of about 1,500 million tablets a year, or equivalent Direct Compressible Grade volume, at an estimated ₹110 crore. It marks the company's entry into contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) for pharmaceutical formulations. The facility is mainly for anchor customers in Europe. It has received a GMP certificate from Hungary's National Centre for Public Health and Pharmacy, Directorate for Drug Inspection, and is expected to be commercialised in Q3 FY2027.
A third project is a dedicated facility for a specialty chemical product under a long-term tolling arrangement with a leading global chemical company. The estimated capital expenditure is about ₹35 crore. It is also expected to be commercialised in Q3 FY2027.
