The Ministry of Railways has approved a ₹285.01 crore project to upgrade the electric traction system on the Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal section of South Central Railway. The work involves converting the existing single-supply 1x25 kV electric traction system to a modern 2x25 kV system, which provides a more stable and efficient power supply for train operations.

The Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal section forms part of the Dharmavaram–Dhone–Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal–Mudkhed–Indore–Ajmer rail corridor, which is classified as a High Density Network route carrying significant volumes of both passenger and freight traffic. The upgrade is expected to improve train reliability, increase line capacity, and reduce operational bottlenecks on this busy corridor.

The 2x25 kV traction system enables longer distances between substations and supports the operation of heavier and more frequent trains compared to the conventional 1x25 kV arrangement. Construction timeline and procurement details have not been disclosed in the sanction announcement.
