Indian Railways Approves ₹166.5 Crore Four-Lane Road Over Bridge at Alkapuri, Vadodara, with Equal Gujarat Government Cost Sharing
Indian Railways has approved construction of a four-lane Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Alkapuri in the Vadodara Division of Western Railway. The total project cost is ₹166.5 crore. The cost will be shared equally with the Gujarat government. Indian Railways' share is about ₹83.28 crore, matched by an equal state contribution.
The ROB will replace the existing Alkapuri Road Under Bridge (RUB) near Vadodara Railway Station. The RUB is an east-west link between the Alkapuri and Kalaghoda areas. Its vertical clearance of about 3.0 metres restricts larger vehicles and causes recurring waterlogging during the monsoon.
Traffic assessments show peak-hour volumes above 1,600 passenger car units per hour. The crossing also has multiple traffic conflict points and inadequate pedestrian facilities. The new four-lane, grade-separated crossing is meant to add capacity without disrupting railway operations.
The ROB will strengthen connectivity to Vadodara Railway Station, the GSRTC Bus Station and the upcoming High-Speed Rail (bullet train) station.
