IGL Signs JV with RVUNL for 500 MW Greenfield Solar Plant in Rajasthan, Floats Tender for 200 MW More
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), India's largest compressed natural gas (CNG) distribution company, is expanding into renewable energy generation to reduce its reliance on conventional grid power. Chairman Subhankar Sen disclosed the plans while addressing shareholders at the company's 27th Annual General Meeting.
IGL has signed a joint venture agreement with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) for setting up a greenfield solar power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatt (MW) in Rajasthan. Separately, the company has floated a tender for setting up a further 200 MW solar power plant in the state.
As part of backward integration into its CNG and piped natural gas (PNG) distribution business, IGL has also set up a joint venture company, IGL Genesis Technologies Ltd, for meter manufacturing. Commercial production at the meter-manufacturing unit has recently commenced.
No investment figures for the solar projects or the meter-manufacturing venture were disclosed in the source article.
