Hindustan Construction Company Wins ₹524.17 Crore NHPC Contract for Salal Power Station Undersluice Rehabilitation in J&K
Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) has secured a ₹524.17 crore contract from NHPC Limited for civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu & Kashmir. The project involves associated ancillary and enabling works required to make the undersluices of the concrete dam fully functional and operational, with an execution period of 27 months.
Undersluices are low-level openings in a dam that help remove silt and control water flow. Restoring them is expected to enhance the power station's operational efficiency, improve sediment management, and strengthen the dam's long-term safety and reliability. The Salal Power Station is one of NHPC's key hydroelectric assets.
The contract builds on HCC's four-decade legacy of engineering projects in Jammu & Kashmir. The company originally constructed the 690 MW Salal Hydroelectric Project, commissioned in 1987, along with four other hydro projects in the region — Uri-II (240 MW), Kishanganga (333 MW), Nimoo Bazgo (45 MW), and Chutak (44 MW) — with a combined installed capacity of 1,352 MW, representing approximately 38 percent of Jammu & Kashmir's total installed hydropower capacity.
The order adds to HCC's total disclosed order book of ₹12,976 crore, with a bid pipeline of ₹85,907 crore. The contract comes shortly after the company's Q1 FY27 results, which showed consolidated EBITDA declining to ₹105.1 crore from ₹179.5 crore in the year-ago quarter, with margins contracting to 10.6 percent amid project mobilisation costs.
