Emami Agrotech Enters Packaged Snacks Market, Plans ₹400 Crore Greenfield Plant in West Bengal
Emami Agrotech Limited, the branded foods arm of the Emami Group, has entered India's packaged snacking market with the launch of WeMe, a digital-first snacking brand. The company plans to set up a ₹400 crore greenfield food manufacturing facility in West Bengal as part of the venture.
Emami Group director Vidula Agarwal said the company is backing the launch with a planned investment of nearly ₹750 crore covering plant and marketing, with the goal of building WeMe into a ₹1,000 crore brand over the next five to seven years.
The venture is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs and nearly 3,000 indirect employment opportunities in West Bengal as manufacturing, distribution and sales operations scale up.
WeMe has launched with three product categories: choco hazelnut spread — including a portable chiplet-format variant — Jhuri Aloo Bhaja, and potato chips. Quick-commerce platforms will lead the initial rollout across Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, with general trade expansion to begin from Kolkata before extending to other markets.
The move marks Emami Agrotech's expansion beyond its core edible oils and pantry staples business sold under the Emami Healthy & Tasty portfolio, as the company positions itself as a broader food company.
