Manufacturing Sep 24,2026

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) worth ₹810.79 crore. It covers 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force. The contract was signed in New Delhi on 23 September 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The order falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, meaning the system is indigenously designed, developed and manufactured. SAT-SAAW is an air-to-ground precision-guided glide bomb developed by DRDO. It can be launched from Jaguar, Hawk and Su-30 MKI aircraft.

Deliveries are scheduled in two phases, between 2027-28 and 2028-29. The system has 60% indigenous content. Sub-systems such as the Inertial Measurement Unit, Long Impact Delay Fuse and Twin Store Carrier are also being indigenised.

The award adds to BDL's domestic defence order book and supports indigenous manufacturing of air-launched precision weapons. The sources do not name BDL's production facility for the order or any sub-suppliers.
