Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited has commenced commercial production of Technical Ammonium Nitrate (TAN) at its Gadepan complex in Kota district, Rajasthan, effective August 20, 2026. The milestone marks the formal completion of the company's ₹1,645-crore capital project at the existing site.

The newly commissioned facility has an operational capacity of 2.4 lakh MTPA for TAN, including the prilled High Density Ammonium Nitrate (HDAN) grade. The project also includes an integrated upstream Weak Nitric Acid (WNA) facility with a capacity of 2.1 lakh MTPA, which will provide feedstock for the TAN unit. The plant uses process technology from CASALE of Switzerland and was executed on a lump-sum turnkey basis, with Larsen & Toubro Limited having been awarded the EPC contract for the project in April 2023.

Commissioning progressed in stages: WNA intermediate production began on June 1, 2026, followed by Ammonium Nitrate Solution production from July 31, 2026, before commercial HDAN output went live on August 20, 2026. The project was originally conceived as a greenfield 2.4 lakh tonne/year TAN plant alongside a 2.1 lakh tonne/year WNA line at Gadepan, aimed at addressing domestic supply shortfalls that had previously required imports.

The TAN and HDAN products serve mining, construction and agriculture end-markets. With the plant now fully operational, Chambal Fertilisers gains a manufacturing base to supply technical ammonium nitrate to domestic and export markets, diversifying its portfolio beyond its core urea fertiliser business at Gadepan.
