BMW Industries Commissions First Phase of ₹803 Crore Greenfield Downstream Steel Complex at Bokaro, Jharkhand
BMW Industries Limited has started operations at the colour coating line, the first phase of its Greenfield Downstream Steel Complex at Bokaro, Jharkhand. The company announced the commissioning on October 5, 2026.
The complex is being developed at a total project cost of ₹803 crore. It will house cold rolled full hard (CRFH), GA/GI/ZAM and colour coated capacities. The company says this will cover the full range of value-added coated steel products.
As of June 30, 2026, the company had deployed ₹341.6 crore on the project. Of this, ₹139.2 crore came from internal accruals and ₹202.4 crore from debt drawdown. About ₹60 crore had been capitalised for the colour coating line as of October 5, 2026.
The company owns the industrial land for the project. The facility is qualified under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) 1.1 scheme for speciality steel, which provides incentives on coated steel sales through FY29. The remaining CRFH and GA/GI/ZAM lines are yet to be commissioned. The company's disclosures do not give a timeline for these.
The project moves BMW Industries from conversion and tube manufacturing into downstream coated steel products. The remaining lines will need cold rolling, galvanising and coating equipment, civil and utility packages.
