Bihar CM Directs Fast-Tracking of ₹10,000 Crore Ajgaibinath Dham and Sonepur Greenfield Airport Projects Under PPP Mode
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed officials on 28 September 2026 to accelerate work on two proposed greenfield airports. The projects are the Ajgaibinath Dham Greenfield Airport and the Sonepur (Saran) Greenfield International Airport. He asked for all procedures to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
At a review meeting in Patna, officials presented techno-economic feasibility reports, traffic surveys and master plans for both airports. The review also covered land acquisition, airport capacity, connectivity and the supporting infrastructure.
The first phase of the Ajgaibinath Dham airport will involve an investment of ₹3,500 crore. The first phase of the Sonepur airport will involve ₹6,500 crore. Both will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
The Chief Minister directed that land acquisition be expedited under the Bihar Raiyoti Land Purchase Policy, 2026. He asked that the runway and infrastructure at both airports be developed for large aircraft. The Ajgaibinath Dham airport is expected to serve Munger, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Bhagalpur, Banka, Khagaria, Begusarai and nearby districts. The Sonepur airport is expected to serve 22 districts of Bihar, along with bordering districts in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Cargo facilities and passenger connectivity received special attention for Sonepur.
