Bengaluru to expand Metro Network by 175 km by 2026, says Karnataka Deputy CM
Infrastructure - Nov 09,2024 -Bengaluru is set to significantly expand its metro network with the addition of 175 kilometers of new metro lines by 2026, according to Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister. This development is part of an ambitious plan to improve the city's public transportation system, reduce traffic congestion, and provide a more efficient, eco-friendly alternative to private vehicles.
The expansion will involve the construction of several new metro corridors, which will connect various parts of the city and offer faster, more convenient travel options for commuters. The new lines will enhance connectivity across key areas, including those that are currently underserved by public transport.
The project is expected to be completed in multiple phases, with the goal of enhancing the overall capacity and coverage of Bengaluru's metro system. The state's government has expressed confidence that this expansion will not only improve urban mobility but also contribute to reducing pollution levels in the city, which faces significant traffic-related air quality concerns.
In addition to the extension of metro lines, the plan includes the introduction of advanced features such as modern stations, upgraded trains, and better integration with other modes of public transport. The city is also looking to increase the frequency of metro services to accommodate the growing number of daily commuters.
The metro network expansion is part of a broader effort by the Karnataka government to transform Bengaluru into a more sustainable and livable city, improving its infrastructure and quality of life for residents. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in reducing reliance on private vehicles, alleviating congestion, and promoting the use of greener, public transport options.
