MGL to enter battery cell manufacturing; announces plans for giga factory in Bengaluru

Infrastructure  -  Nov 09,2024  -

MGL (Mahanagar Gas Limited) is making a strategic foray into the battery cell manufacturing sector, with plans to establish a state-of-the-art giga factory in Bengaluru. This move marks a significant step for the company as it expands its portfolio and diversifies into the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy sectors.

The proposed giga factory will focus on the production of advanced lithium-ion battery cells, which are crucial components for electric vehicles, energy storage solutions, and other clean energy applications. The factory is expected to play a pivotal role in India's efforts to transition towards sustainable energy and reduce its reliance on imported battery cells.

MGL's decision to venture into battery manufacturing comes at a time when demand for EV batteries is skyrocketing, driven by the government's push to promote electric vehicles and clean energy technologies. The new facility in Bengaluru will be equipped with cutting-edge technology for high-volume battery production, catering to both domestic and global markets.
