Banas Dairy and Suzuki Inaugurate New Bio-CNG Plant at Vinchhiwadi in Banaskantha, Gujarat
Banas Dairy has inaugurated a new Bio-CNG plant at Vinchhiwadi in Dhanera taluka, Banaskantha district, Gujarat, in partnership with Suzuki Motor Corporation and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The facility converts cattle dung into biogas, which is then purified into Bio-CNG.
The plant adds to an existing network in the region. Banas Dairy's initial Bio-CNG facility at Dama began with a processing capacity of 45 metric tonnes; four operational plants in the region now have a combined capacity of around 340 metric tonnes per day. Two additional plants are planned at Tharad and Radhanpur.
Banas Dairy chairman Shankarbhai Chaudhary said Greater Banaskantha has the potential to support around 100 such plants, citing an estimated 30 lakh livestock population in the region as a feedstock source.
Suzuki Motor Corporation chairman Toshihiro Suzuki said the partnership with Banas Dairy and NDDB would support the expansion of biogas technology in India, linking the project to broader India-Japan cooperation aimed at establishing 1,000 biogas plants across the country.
The Gujarat government has allocated ₹60 crore in its budget to support similar Bio-CNG projects through cooperative dairies in the state, with Banas Dairy set to provide technical guidance for establishing plants at around seven other cooperative dairies.
