Assam Cabinet Approves Land Allotment for AMUL Milk Processing Facility in Biswanath
The Assam Cabinet has approved the lease of 33 bighas of land to the Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd (AMUL) for setting up a bulk milk cooler and chilling centre at Biswanath Chariali.
The facility is aimed at strengthening milk collection, storage, procurement and cold-chain infrastructure in the region, while supporting local dairy farmers. It is expected to reduce post-harvest milk losses and improve value addition in milk production.
This will be the state's second major dairy processing project after the milk processing unit at Rani in Guwahati. The initiative forms part of the Assam government's broader push to accelerate the state's 'White Revolution' under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The land allotment was approved alongside other Cabinet decisions, including amendments to the Assam Minor Mineral Concession Rules and clearance of bills for the upcoming Budget Session. The new dairy facility is expected to generate employment opportunities in the Biswanath region as part of the state's efforts to expand dairy procurement infrastructure.
