Andhra Pradesh Seeks Centre’s Support for Shipbuilding Centre at Dugarajapatnam and Terminal at Mulapeta Port
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has sought the Centre’s cooperation to expand maritime-based economic activity in the state. He met Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi on Thursday, according to a statement.
The discussions covered port development in the state, a terminal at Mulapeta Port and a shipbuilding centre at Dugarajapatnam. Naidu asked the Union Ministry to establish the shipbuilding centre at Dugarajapatnam.
Naidu said the state is speeding up port-based industrial and commercial development along its coastline. He said shipbuilding, ship repair and marine engineering, developed alongside existing and proposed ports, would generate employment and investment.
Mulapeta Port is in Srikakulam district. Naidu said its development would boost commercial activity in North Andhra. He sought the Centre’s support for the terminal and the allied infrastructure the port requires.
The source gives no investment figures, capacity, land details, timeline or developer for either project. Neither proposal has been approved or tendered, according to the source.
