Amgen To Set Up Science And Innovation Centre At Genome Valley, Hyderabad; MoU Signed With Telangana Government
Global biotechnology company Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN) has announced plans to open a new Science and Innovation Center at Genome Valley in Hyderabad. Amgen India signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Telangana in the presence of IT & Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, with Naveen Gullapalli, Managing Director of Amgen India, and Krishna Aditya, Special Secretary, Industries, exchanging the MoU documents.
The new center will join Amgen's global Research and Development network, which currently consists of seven research laboratories in the US and abroad, further expanding the company's research and scientific capabilities. The facility is expected to become operational in 2027 and will bring together scientists and technologists working across discovery chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, and precision medicine.
Jay Bradner, Amgen's Executive Vice President of Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data, said the center will integrate experimental science with data and technology across the company's global research capabilities, complementing its US-based R&D footprint.
The announcement follows Amgen's earlier establishment of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad employing around 3,000 people. Minister Sridhar Babu said the new Research and Innovation Centre would create employment opportunities for highly skilled professionals and add momentum to Hyderabad's emergence as a global hub for advanced life sciences research.
Amgen has not disclosed a specific investment figure for the Genome Valley center. The move adds to a broader wave of R&D investment by the company, which has separately committed $600 million for a research center at its Thousand Oaks headquarters and $125 million for an expansion at its South San Francisco facility.
