Adani Power Begins Construction of ₹48,000 Crore 3,200 MW Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant at Chapar, Dhubri, Assam
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for Adani Power's 3,200 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant at Chapar in Dhubri district, lower Assam. The plant will cost ₹48,000 crore. It will be the largest power generation asset in the Northeast and is expected to create 5,000 jobs.
The plant will have four units of 800 MW each, using ultra-supercritical technology. Commissioning will be in phases from December 2030.
The Chapar plant is part of the Adani group's ₹63,000 crore investment in Assam. The remaining ₹15,000 crore is for two pumped storage plants with a combined capacity of 2,700 MW. The source does not give locations or timelines for the pumped storage plants.
The company said investments in the state across sectors will exceed ₹80,000 crore. Projects are moving to execution and will be delivered over the next three to four years. The Chief Minister linked the project to investment commitments from the Advantage Assam Investor Summit 2.0.
