A new 1800 MW pumped storage project in Alleri, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, costing Rs.113,408 million, is planned. This standalone, off-the-river, closed-loop scheme will start construction in March 2025 and finish by March 2030. As of June 2024, the project is awaiting environmental clearance from the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority.
