    A 400 MLD desalination plant is planned in Perur, Chennai to meet the city's drinking water requirements. The project is proposed to cost Rs.39121.6 million and is located in CRZ-III and CRZ-IV areas. As of June 2018, the Expert Appraisal Committee has recommended the project for CRZ clearance.
