Work commences on Rs 160 crore Assonora bypass

Infrastructure  -  Sep 05,2024  -

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone for the construction work of Assonora bypass in Bicholim, two months after work in the project began.

The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion along the state highway, which will benefit local travellers. It is anticipated to be completed within 18 months.

The Assonora Bypass, stretching from Sirsaim to Mulgao, will initiate in Sirsaim (Tivim) and connect with the existing road in Mulgao.

Awarded to MVR Construction, the project is estimated to cost around Rs 160 crore. Funded by the state government and designed according to the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the bypass is expected to be an infrastructure upgrade.

The project includes a bridge across the Assonora River and an underpass for Shirgao Road. Additionally, cattle passes will be constructed as the bypass traverses agricultural fields.
