Vedanta Plans 60 Lakh Tonne Alumina Refinery in Rayagada District, Odisha as Part of 1 Lakh Crore Aluminium Hub
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held high-level discussions with Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal to fast-track projects worth over ₹1 lakh crore in the state. Among the projects discussed is a 60 lakh tonne capacity alumina refinery proposed for Rayagada district, for which land has already been allocated.
The refinery is part of Vedanta's broader programme to position Odisha as the world's largest aluminium production hub, with rail connectivity approved near an upcoming bauxite mine and infrastructure development reported to be progressing.
The Odisha government has committed to reviewing project progress every 15 days to ensure timely delivery. The combined Vedanta investments across all projects in the state are expected to generate lakhs of direct and indirect jobs and support the development of thousands of new MSMEs.
