Metallurgical Industries  -  Mar 27,2025  -

Vedanta Aluminium has inaugurated a 13.4 km railway line, enhancing its supply chain efficiency and reducing carbon emissions by 262 tonne of CO2 annually. The expansion will support Vedanta’s five MTPA alumina refinery in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district, Odisha.

“This will ensure seamless inbound and outbound movement (100 percent through rail) of raw materials and commodities,” the company stated, highlighting its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier.

Additionally, six new loop lines have been added within the in-plant yard, along with an upgraded electronic signalling system.

These enhancements increase the facility’s capacity to handle up to 25 million tonnes of raw materials and commodities annually, supporting 20 rakes per day with improved efficiency.

Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Aluminium, Sunila Gupta stated that the expansion will reduce turnaround time and support long-term production goals.
