VA Tech WABAG Bags ₹250–600 Crore BWSSB Order for Wastewater Treatment Plants in Bengaluru
VA Tech WABAG Limited has secured a large domestic order from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for the development of two wastewater treatment facilities in Bengaluru. The company classifies the combined order, valued between ₹250 crore and ₹600 crore, under its internal "Large" order band.
The first order covers design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant along with a 25 MLD tertiary treatment plant at Byramangala. The tertiary facility will use ultrafiltration technology to produce treated water suitable for discharge into nearby water bodies. The second order covers a 60 MLD sewage treatment plant at Bellandur, where WABAG had earlier executed the first phase and has now been awarded the second phase.
Both sewage treatment plants will be built on the Activated Sludge Process integrated with Biological Nutrient Removal technology, and will include biogas-based power generation systems to improve energy efficiency. The contracts are structured on a Design, Build, Operate (DBO) basis, with the engineering, procurement and construction phase expected to be completed within 36 months, followed by seven years of operation and maintenance by WABAG.
The projects are aimed at expanding Bengaluru's sewage treatment capacity and supporting water reuse and energy optimisation objectives under Karnataka's broader water security programme. WABAG's order book, built on repeat mandates from municipal clients such as BWSSB, reflects continued activity in India's municipal wastewater treatment and water infrastructure sector.
