Union Budget allocates Rs 6,626 crore for railway projects in Tamil Nadu

The Union Budget has earmarked Rs 6,626 crore for Tamil Nadu's railway projects in 2025-26, an increase from the Rs 6,326 crore allocated in 2024-25.

A total of 22 projects, covering 2,587 km and costing Rs 33,467 crore, are underway in the state, with 77 stations being redeveloped under the Amrit Station Scheme for Rs 2,948 crore. Additionally, 601 works are ongoing to install Kavach Safety systems across Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 1,460 crore.

The state has electrified 2,242 km of railway tracks, nearly 94 percent of its total track length. For Kerala, the budget allocation stands at Rs 3,042 crore for 2025-26, eight times the Rs 372 crore allocated during 2009-2014. 

Kerala is implementing eight projects, covering 419 km and costing Rs 12,350 crore, with 35 stations being redeveloped under the Amrit Station Scheme at a cost of Rs 2,560 crore.
