Trial run of Indian Oil's lube plant at Manali begins

Petroleum  -  Jan 17,2025  -

Indian Oil Corporation has started the trial run of its integrated grass root lube complex at Manali, Chennai.

Once operational, this facility will become the second largest lube plant globally with a capacity of 672 thousand metric tonne per annum (TMTPA).

The Rs 1,400-crore project aims to address the needs of residents in the densely industrialised areas of Tondiarpet and Korukkupet, where several existing oil installations will be relocated to Manali.

The new plant is designed to blend eco-friendly lubricants such as grease, transformer oil, white oil, brake oil, diesel exhaust fluid, coolant, and bituminous grade. Base oil required for the production will be sourced from the CPCL Refinery at Manali and Chennai Port. The finished lubricants will be distributed via tank trucks, barrels, pails, and small cans.

Launched with the foundation stone laid by Union Minister Amit Shah in November 2020, this project aims to enhance India’s self-reliance in high-quality lubricant production
