LG, Panasonic Energy accelerate plans for battery plants

Manufacturing  -  Jan 22,2025  -

LG Energy Solution and Panasonic Energy are set to accelerate their plans for manufacturing facilities in India.

LGES has its focus on Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, while Panasonic Energy is considering Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka.

Both companies are exploring feasibility studies to integrate battery technology into clean energy transitions in India.

The expansion is seen as vital for enhancing EV affordability and innovation in India’s EV industry.

As part of its evaluation process, LGES plans to conduct a site visit to a 100-acre plot in Manallur near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, following the Pongal festival.

“They aim to start small and gradually scale up. Tamil Nadu’s strong auto ecosystem could give it an edge,” informed an industry source familiar with the developments.

LGES clarified in a statement that while there are no specific plans for India at present, the company is “exploring various potential business options and closely monitoring the market”.
