Tendering begins for Rs 320 crore Kalyan-Ulhasnagar flyover expansion

Infrastructure  -  Oct 09,2024  -

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has begun the tendering process for works worth Rs 320 crore for the augmentation of the Shahad railway flyover connecting Kalyan to national highway 62 and linking Kalyan and Ulhasnagar.
Currently, the railway flyover comprises two lanes, and its expansion will make it a four-lane affair.

As the bridge serves as a vital link between Mumbai, Kalyan and national highway 62, it perpetually experiences heavy traffic congestion. Residents of Ulhasnagar utilise it to come to Kalyan and vice versa.

Whenever a vehicle stops on the flyover, it exacerbates the congestion on both the Kalyan and Ulhasnagar sides of the flyover. During repair work on the flyover, the closure of a single lane results in severe traffic jams, causing crowding on both the Ulhasnagar and Kalyan ends.

In response to the demands of residents and MLA Kumar Ailani, MP Shrikant Shinde brought the issue to the attention of the MMRDA. The authority acknowledged the significance and necessity of expanding the flyover.

Shinde said the expansion work will commence promptly. Ailani said the repair work on the two lanes in existence will begin soon at an estimated cost of Rs 13 crore.
