Tata Electronics, Sumitomo Chemical Sign MoU for Semiconductor Materials Supply to ₹91,000 Crore Dholera Fab
Tata Electronics and Japan-based Sumitomo Chemical have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the supply and local manufacture of semiconductor materials in India, aimed at supporting Tata Electronics' upcoming semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the MoU, Sumitomo Chemical will explore supplying semiconductor materials to the Dholera fab, including photoresists, functional chemicals and high-purity chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, ammonia water and sulfuric acid. The companies will also explore local manufacture of Sumitomo Chemical's semiconductor materials and high-purity chemicals within India, with Tata Electronics supporting the evaluation of local manufacturing opportunities.
Tata Electronics is building India's first commercial 12-inch (300mm) semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned investment of approximately ₹91,000 crore (around US$11 billion). The facility is intended to manufacture chips for applications spanning automotive, mobile devices and artificial intelligence, serving customers globally.
The MoU was announced alongside a series of other partnerships Tata Electronics signed at SEMICON India 2026 to build out the Dholera semiconductor ecosystem, covering advanced materials, chip design, engineering infrastructure, logistics and vendor development. These include a phased investment of approximately ₹700 crore by Fujifilm to establish an advanced-materials facility in Dholera Special Investment Region, and a partnership with Singapore-based Ascendas Firstspace to develop a 363-acre vendor park in Dholera, planned for further development as a Special Economic Zone.
