Tamil Nadu to Acquire Land Near Parandur for ₹175 Crore SIPCOT Semiconductor Park
The Tamil Nadu government is proceeding to acquire land for a SIPCOT Industrial Park at Madhuramangalam in Kancheepuram district, near the Parandur site earlier proposed for a greenfield Chennai airport that was subsequently cancelled. The state plans to set up a Semiconductor Electronics Manufacturing Park at the location at an estimated cost of ₹175 crore, aimed at attracting large-scale investment in the sector.
A notice issued by the Commissioner of Land Administration stated that around 8.3820 hectares of land, classified as dry land containing neem and coconut trees, is required for the project. Plans of the land parcels have been made available for inspection at the office of the Special District Revenue Officer and Special Tahsildar.
The notification follows an announcement by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in the State Assembly, stating that the proposed park would house semiconductor industries along with research and development facilities.
The project is expected to generate direct and indirect employment for around 5,000 people, adding to Tamil Nadu's electronics and semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Madhuramangalam lies close to Parandur and Eganapuram, where an earlier land acquisition for a second Chennai airport was scrapped by the current state government following local opposition.
