Surat airport expansion project: Rs 215 crore approved for land purchase

Infrastructure  -  Jul 22,2024  -

The Gujarat Government has given its nod to the Surat International Airport expansion project.

Government allocated Rs 215 crore for land acquisition for the project. 80,643 square meters of private land would be acquired in Magdalla.

To obtain objections from concerned landowners, the Land Acquisition Officer will send out a notification under Section 10 of the Land Acquisition Act.

The acquisition will move forward under the 2013 acquisition rules, guaranteeing that compensation is given under the regulations.

Once the land is acquired, the Airport Authority of India plans to install CAT-1 approach lights at Surat airport. Given the airport’s proximity to the sea, visibility is often compromised outside the monsoon season.

The CAT-1 lights will enhance visibility during adverse weather conditions like heavy rain and dense fog, ensuring safer flight operations without the need for diversions.
