South Korea firms visit Dholera SIR to explore business opportunities

Manufacturing  -  Sep 14,2023  -

Half-dozen South Korean enterprises visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) to investigate the possibility of establishing a display fabrication unit in Gujarat.

"A delegation of companies spent the entire day at Dholera SIR." "The delegation included senior representatives from the Korea Display Industry Association and the Director General of the Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA)," stated Vijay Nehra, secretary of the Government of Gujarat's Department of Science and Technology.

Setting up a display fabrication unit is extremely capital intensive and requires an estimated investment of Rs 70,000-75,000 crore over a period of 2-3 years, as per officials. Such a unit will pave the way for manufacturing indigenous displays for devices like smartphones, tablets, televisions, laptops, and others.

Currently, China, South Korea, and Japan control the bulk of production in the global display market, accounting for 65 percent of the total production.
