Sona BLW Precision Forgings Limited, known as Sona Comstar, has approved a capital expenditure of ₹62.6 crore (₹626 million) to establish manufacturing capabilities for components and systems serving the robotics industry, including advanced robotics. The decision was taken at the company's board meeting on June 16, 2026, based on a recommendation from the Capex Committee.

The new business line marks a diversification beyond Sona Comstar's core automotive-component business, which currently spans differential assemblies, gears, starter motors and traction motors, with a growing electric vehicle portfolio. The company aims to widen its product base and access new end markets that its existing automotive operations cannot serve.

No further details on plant location, capacity, or production timeline have been disclosed at this stage. The robotics capex follows Sona Comstar's broader push into advanced mobility segments, including humanoid robotics, drones and eVTOL powertrains, alongside its 2025 acquisition of Escorts Kubota's railway equipment business.

For FY26, Sona Comstar reported consolidated revenue of ₹4,449 crore, up from ₹3,546 crore in FY25, with net profit rising to ₹629 crore from ₹600 crore, even as operating margins narrowed to 24 per cent from 27 per cent as the company scales its newer business lines.
