Praj Industries Signs Development & Commercialization Agreement with Gevo for Bio-Isobutanol Technology in India
Praj Industries and Gevo, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEVO) have signed a Development & Commercialization Agreement for Bio-Isobutanol (Bio-IBA) technology in India. Under the agreement, Praj will lead commercialization of the technology in the country, holding exclusive rights for its deployment, with a primary focus on diesel blending applications.
The partnership combines Praj's engineering, project execution and market-development expertise with Gevo's Bio-IBA technology, and builds on more than a decade of collaboration between the two companies to adapt the technology for Indian sugar- and starch-based feedstocks.
Separately, Praj is currently setting up India's first commercial Bio-IBA demonstration plant for a leading Oil Marketing Company (OMC). Praj is responsible for the design, engineering, supply and erection of the plant, which is based on Gevo's licensed Bio-IBA technology. The demonstration unit is intended to validate production, supply-chain and market-development pathways ahead of wider commercial rollout in India.
Bio-IBA is being positioned as a renewable blending component for diesel, with potential applications across transportation, agriculture, mining, construction and industrial operations. According to the Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), India consumed approximately 94.7 million tonnes of high-speed diesel in FY2025-26, underscoring the scale of the addressable market for renewable diesel-blending solutions.
Beyond diesel, Bio-IBA is also being developed as a platform molecule for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other renewable chemicals, indicating further downstream project opportunities linked to the technology. No investment figures were disclosed for either the commercialization agreement or the demonstration plant.
