Odisha CM announces plan to build Rs 4,000 crore cement factory in Malkangiri

Chemicals  -  Dec 16,2024  -

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced plans reccently to build a Rs 4,000-crore cement factory in Malkangiri district, aiming to create direct employment for around 2,000 educated youths.

The announcement, made during a comprehensive review meeting, represents a significant push for industrial development in the region, which has long been affected by Maoist insurgency.

The cement factory project comes alongside efforts to improve Malkangiri's connectivity, including the proposed Jeypore-Malkangiri and Malkangiri-Pandurangapuram rail lines, which aim to place the district on India’s railway map. "We are prioritizing land acquisition to expedite these vital infrastructure projects," Majhi said.

In addition to the cement factory, Majhi outlined several other infrastructure initiatives, including the construction of national highways and rural development projects.

The Union government has allocated Rs 19.78 crore for five high-level bridges and Rs 12.62 crore for four more bridges to enhance regional connectivity.

In the education sector, the CM promised that each school would have at least two teachers and revealed plans to establish Godabarish model primary schools in every panchayat within three years.

The state government is also focusing on promoting women's self-reliance through the Subhadra Yojana, with a particular focus on primitive tribes such as Bonda and Didai.

To ensure the timely completion of these projects, Majhi directed the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (South) and District Collector to conduct fortnightly reviews.

"The district administration must prioritize and expedite all departmental activities," he emphasized.
