Danish biosolutions producer Novonesis has announced a ₹6,600 crore investment to expand its enzyme plant in Patalganga, Maharashtra. The expansion is expected to be completed over the next four years, with the facility fully operational by 2030.

The expanded plant will produce enzymes for industries including biofuels, household care, and food and beverages. Company officials said the facility is intended to serve rising demand from emerging markets, including the Middle East, Africa, India and South Asia, which are expected to grow faster than developed markets.

The Patalganga site will support the company's scale, operational resilience, efficiency and supply flexibility for customers in the region. The company said the expanded facility will incorporate water and energy efficiency measures, including freshwater recycling and integrated heat pumps to reduce energy consumption.

The Patalganga plant was originally commissioned in 2019 by Novozymes, which merged with Chr. Hansen in 2024 to form Novonesis. The Patalganga industrial belt, located on the outskirts of Mumbai, also hosts chemical and petrochemical facilities operated by Reliance Industries, Hindustan Organic Chemicals, Cipla and Asian Paints.
