NMDC Commissions 2 MTPA Pellet Plant at Nagarnar as Part of ₹5,427 Crore Integrated Iron Ore Processing Project in Chhattisgarh

State-run NMDC Ltd has commissioned its 2 million tonne per annum (MTPA) pellet plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh. The plant is part of a ₹5,427 crore integrated project. The project links NMDC's iron ore operations at Bacheli with its steel plant at Nagarnar.

The integrated project has three components. These are a new iron ore processing plant at Bacheli, a slurry pipeline with a capacity of 15 MTPA, and the 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar.

The 135-km slurry pipeline carries processed iron ore concentrate from Bacheli to Nagarnar. It provides an alternative to road transport and is designed to lower dependence on the Railways. The pipeline passes through 61 villages in Bastar and Dantewada districts.

The facilities allow NMDC to process iron ore fines and slimes from its Bailadila mines into concentrate. The concentrate is then converted into pellets, which will be supplied to steel manufacturers. Maiden production from the pellet plant adds a value-added product to the company's portfolio.

The project is part of NMDC's expansion and diversification strategy. The company is working towards raising its iron ore production capacity to 100 million tonnes in the long term.
