Mumbai Airport to undergo redevelopment of Terminal 1 for increased capacity
Infrastructure - Jan 30,2025 -Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) is set to redevelop Terminal 1 (T1) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to enhance passenger capacity and modernise infrastructure.
The revamped terminal will accommodate 20 million passengers annually, marking a 42 percent capacity increase. Spanning over two million sq. ft., the new facility will emphasise digitisation and passenger convenience.
The redevelopment will begin with the demolition of the existing T1 structure in November 2025, followed by the construction of a new terminal.
During this period, operations will be managed by Terminal 2 (T2) and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, ensuring seamless passenger flow. Mumbai International Airport is operated by Adani Airport Holdings (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, under a public-private partnership (PPP) with Airports Authority of India (AAI).
AAHL holds a 74 percent stake, while AAI owns the remaining 26 percent.
