Monolithisch India to Commission Greenfield Ramming Mass Plant at Purulia; Capacity to Reach 5.74 Lakh MTPA
Monolithisch India Limited, a manufacturer of premium silica ramming mass used as a lining material in induction furnaces for the secondary steel and foundry industries, is progressing construction of a new greenfield manufacturing facility at its Purulia site in West Bengal.
The company has outlined a phased commissioning schedule for the new unit: a dry run of the plant is scheduled to begin on September 14, 2026, followed by ritual ceremonies on September 16, and technical trials running from September 17 to September 30, 2026.
The new facility forms part of a broader capacity expansion. Monolithisch India's installed capacity has grown from 78,000 MTPA in FY23 to 2.1 lakh MTPA in FY26, and the company is now scaling this further to 5.74 lakh MTPA through the new greenfield site, which would make it one of the largest ramming mass manufacturing facilities in the country upon completion.
Ramming mass is a heat-insulation and lining material used in induction furnaces at iron, steel and foundry plants, and requires periodic replacement, generating recurring demand tied to India's overall steel furnace capacity. The company has said the new facility and a proposed industrial park are central to its long-term growth roadmap as India targets an increase in steel production capacity to 300 million tonnes by FY30.
Management indicated that commissioning of the new unit will proceed in stages through September 2026, adding to capacity already brought online at the company's existing Purulia plant.
