Cabinet Approves ₹7,145 Crore Greenfield Kanpur–Kabrai Highway Under Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the development of a 117.7-km, 4/6-lane access-controlled greenfield highway connecting Kanpur and Kabrai, at an estimated cost of ₹7,145 crore. The project will be implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The highway forms part of the Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor and is intended to connect the Kabrai mining belt with industrial and urban centres, including Kanpur and Bhopal. The route is expected to support the movement of minerals, manufactured goods and agricultural produce across the region.
Once completed, the highway is expected to cut travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai from around 3.5 hours to nearly 1.5 hours, improving freight movement and reducing logistics costs for businesses operating along the corridor.
The project is also expected to improve market access for farmers in the region by enabling faster transport of agricultural produce to mandis, processing units and consumption centres, along with better movement of farm inputs such as seeds, fertilisers and machinery.
The highway is positioned as a driver of industrial connectivity and investment across the Bundelkhand region, with expectations of generating employment and supporting broader economic development along the corridor.
